What is mifepristone?
Mifepristone is the first pill. It blocks a hormone your body needs to stay pregnant. Without that hormone, the lining of the uterus breaks down, and the baby starts to die. But the process doesn’t stop there. A second pill is taken to force the baby out of your body—and that’s where many women experience strong pain, bleeding, and deep emotional distress.
What is misoprostol?
Misoprostol is the second drug in the abortion process. It makes your body cramp to push out the baby and terminate the pregnancy. Some women are told this part will feel like a heavy period—but many say it was much worse than they expected.

What are the risks?
Like any medical procedure, medication abortion carries significant risks, which can include:
- Intense bleeding
- Severe cramping
- Fever or chills
- Nausea or vomiting
- Sometimes, the abortion doesn’t finish—and that can lead to emergency surgery
It’s not just your body that’s affected. Many women also carry emotional scars they didn’t expect. The abortion pill is not safe for individuals with certain health conditions or an ectopic pregnancy. A medical consultation is essential before use.
